about me

I’ve come to painting in a round about way.  My great love is creating space and experience- nurturing feelings of nostalgia, reverence, beauty, and meaning- bringing people together in celebration and ritual- finding ways to assist in the enjoyment of life’s most basic pleasures.  For years I explored those realms by designing and building natural homes, gardens, saunas, and meditation spaces. I was often found with my hands in the dirt- planting, building and playing; or throwing a lively dinner in summer’s garden.

A long and winding journey with chronic illness has beckoned me to design an ever simpler and more reflective lifestyle, to explore new materials and mediums for the construction of space and experience.  In search of a timeless method of work, a more ephemeral process, and a way to engage my deep desire to create, I turned to the familiar comforts of drawing and painting.  Under the kind and ever inspiring guidance of my mentor Dean Gazeley, I learned to paint with oils, see light and color, understand transparency, love the depth and surprise of layers, and realize that there are whole exciting worlds to travel into on the canvas.

I now create space and experience with paint, line, and words.  I explore compositions that invite people to bring their own memories and dreams to the scene, hoping that they may imagine and remember in some way a part of themselves, and the places to which they belong. This creative process allows me a personal way to do that same thing, as I walk through my own inner landscapes.  Sharing this work continually reminds me of how unique our own world of perception really is, and of how many layers of possibility we each are made.
